Welcome to Pulcinella, an intimate Italian restaurant located in the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach. Located in the Kempsriver shopping center, our restaurant is a family owned and operated establishment. We came to Virginia Beach from Italy, bringing with us our favorite Italian dishes and favorite family recipes. The many favorable reviews we have received speak to how authentic our menu items are. For those who have lived or traveled in Italy, our dishes remind them of their dining experiences while there. Pulcinella

In 1998 Gino and Pina; who at the time was pregnant with Jessica, and their three year old daughter Marisa, left Naples, Italy to begin their journey to the United States. Pina believed their safe arrival the week of Thanksgiving was an indication of good things to come. The decision to leave the comfort of their family and friends was very difficult, but Gino knew better job opportunities were awaiting them in Virginia. To get a better understanding of the English language before leaving Naples, the pair watched American television shows and listened to American music.

They lived in an apartment building in Virginia Beach, found employment at various restaurants, and quickly realized they could have a restaurant to call their own. Five years after their arrival to Virginia Beach, the foursome was joined by Pina’s dad (Nonno) and a year later, Pina’s mother (Nonna).

Family means everything to Gino and Pina, and they believe it takes the entire group to manage a restaurant and to provide for their children. With the help of Pina’s parents, nieces, nephews, and daughters they opened Pulcinella Restaurant on August 21, 2009 in commemoration of their son Alessandro’s birthday. They chose the name Pulcinella for the famous Italian play about a loveable Neapolitan character that uses a positive approach to life philosophy. Their favorite time in the restaurant is when families dine at Pulcinella for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, weddings or just to enjoy a nice evening with friends and family over dinner. La Dolce Vita!

What to Expect

The restaurant has about 48 seats. We also have a deli in which you can find your favorite imported Italian meats and cheeses. All our products are imported from Italy such as prosciutto di parma, mortadella, provolone auricchio, extra virgin olive oil, fresh mozzarella cheese, and lots, lots more! We also have homemade lasagna, sausage and more, which can be ordered for takeout or for your next family or corporate event. Our goal is to keep you happy and make you feel like you have a home away from home. We aim to provide you with a pleasant, authentic Italian experience you’ll always remember. If you can’t dine in Italy, come to Pulcinella, your piece of Italy in Virginia Beach. All of our menu items are available to go, and we also offer catering. (over 20 people 10% off)

Finding Pulcinella was the highlight of my week. The food was fantastic. I overheard the man at the next table say that he lived in Naples for thirteen years … in my mind he knows good Italian food and the fact that he was sitting in Pulcinella’s speaks volumes.
